A 15-day, 14-night tour of Sri Lanka: history, culture, nature and beach, from the ancient wonders of the Cultural Triangle to the misty central highlands and the beaches of the south coast. Offered with Apical Lanka Travel.
The tour in brief
The itinerary mixes heritage sites, golden beaches and hiking, with as much adventure or rest as you want. You will visit historic temples, walk scenic trails, spend slow afternoons on the beach, and, if you choose, book Ayurvedic treatments.
The route: Negombo, Colombo, Bentota, Mirissa, Yala, Ella, Nuwara Eliya, Kandy, Sigiriya, Trincomalee and Anuradhapura, then back to Negombo for departure.

Welcome to Sri Lanka. No activities are planned today: everyone arrives at the hotel, rests, and has dinner together. Overnight stay in Negombo. Depending on arrival time, we will explore Negombo.
Day 02Negombo to Colombo to Bentota
After breakfast, you will be transferred to Colombo, Sri Lanka's largest city. You will visit Galle Face Green, the oceanfront urban park popular with families for kite flying, beach sports and cricket, plus Vihara Mahadevi Park, the National Museum, the Twin World Trade Center Towers, and the Colombo Lotus Tower, currently the tallest self-supported structure in South Asia. Next, the Kosgoda Turtle Hatchery, a conservation project protecting endangered sea turtles, and later the Madu River safari. Overnight stay in Bentota.

Day 03Bentota
Relax at a beach hotel in Bentota, or take part in water activities such as water sports, diving and snorkeling. Overnight stay in Bentota.

Day 04Bentota to Mirissa
After breakfast, visit Galle Fort, with the option of water sports and a look at stilt fishing. Then drive toward the coastal town of Mirissa, stopping at a snake farm on the way. In the evening, explore Parrot Rock and take in the sunset from Coconut Tree Hill. Overnight stay in Mirissa.

Day 05Mirissa to Yala
Watch whales from Mirissa as early as 6:30 in the morning. Then proceed to Yala, with the option of a full-day or half-day safari at the renowned Yala National Park. Overnight stay in Yala.

Day 06Tissamaharama (Yala) to Ella
After breakfast, visit the ancient Buduruwagala Rock, known for its rock carvings, before heading to the hill town of Ella. Continue with a visit to a sacred temple, then Rawana Waterfall, and the iconic Nine Arch Bridge, a marvel of colonial-era engineering set in lush greenery. As evening sets in, climb Little Adam's Peak for wide views over the hill country to close out the day. Overnight stay in Ella.

Day 07Ella to Nuwara Eliya
After breakfast, board the 9:40 AM train from Ella, a scenic ride through lush tea plantations and misty mountains. On arrival in Nuwara Eliya, transfer to a private vehicle and explore Gregory Lake, Victoria Park Garden and the Hakgala Botanical Garden. Overnight stay in Nuwara Eliya.

Day 08Nuwara Eliya to Kandy
After breakfast, begin the drive to Kandy. Along the way, visit Ramboda Falls, a tea factory and a tea plantation, where you can watch the tea-making process. Before reaching Kandy, explore the Peradeniya Royal Botanical Gardens, and optionally Ambuluwawa Tower, a relatively easy hike with 360-degree views of mountains, forests, rivers and towns. Overnight stay in Kandy.

Day 09Kandy
After breakfast, visit the Bahirawakanda Temple, which looks out over the whole city, followed by a city tour. There is time for shopping and souvenirs in the afternoon. In the evening, witness a traditional Kandyan cultural dance performance and visit the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic. Overnight stay in Kandy.

Day 10Kandy to Sigiriya
After breakfast, visit the Gem Museum and Workshop to learn about Sri Lanka's renowned gemstone industry, then explore a Hindu temple in Kandy city. Next, set off on a scenic drive toward Sigiriya, stopping at Nalanda Gedige, an ancient temple that blends Hindu and Buddhist influences. Overnight stay in Sigiriya.

Day 11Sigiriya to Trincomalee
Wake up early to climb Sigiriya Rock, a great chance for photos before the sun gets too hot. Later, trek the trails of the Hiriwadunna Village Safari, with a local lunch included. Afterward, drive to Trincomalee, enjoy the evening at the beach and visit a Hindu temple. Overnight stay in Trincomalee.

Day 12Trincomalee
After breakfast, take a boat trip to Pigeon Island National Park, one of Sri Lanka's two marine national parks. In the evening, enjoy the beach at your leisure. Overnight stay in Trincomalee.

Day 13Trincomalee to Anuradhapura
After breakfast, start sightseeing: Konesar Temple, Shri Badrakali Amman Hindu Temple, Villuntri Kandaswamy Temple, and the hot water wells. After sightseeing, proceed to Anuradhapura. Overnight stay in Anuradhapura.

Day 14Anuradhapura to Negombo
After breakfast, explore the historic city of Anuradhapura and its ancient ruins. Then enjoy a safari at Wilpattu National Park before proceeding to Negombo. Overnight stay in Negombo.

Day 15Departure
Enjoy a hearty breakfast at the hotel before checking out. Your guide will transfer you to the airport. If you have time before your flight, you can do some shopping. Say goodbye, for now.

Vehicle and driver
A luxury van for the full 15 days and 14 nights (Honda Fit Shuttle, Toyota Prius or similar, depending on availability), with seating for 3 passengers plus luggage. Transportation is by air-conditioned private vehicle with an English-speaking chauffeur until the end of the itinerary. Parking and paging at the airport, local vehicle insurance, passenger insurance, highway tolls, GPS monitoring, and all taxes, fuel surcharges and service fees are included.

Visa requirements
Apply at eta.gov.lk. The visa is initially valid for 30 days from the date of arrival and can be extended up to six months through the Department of Immigration and Emigration. Singapore and Maldives passport holders are eligible for visa on arrival.
Climate and seasons
The lowlands are tropical, averaging 27°C in Colombo; higher elevations can drop to 16°C. Bright, sunny days are common even in monsoon season, and Sri Lanka has no off-season. The southwest monsoon brings rain to the western, southern and central regions from May to July; the northeast monsoon brings rain to the northern and eastern regions in December and January.
